Her wings [[ached]].She had [[flown]] for so long she had forgotten what it was to rest them. All she could see in the dark were the [[stars]].
And she yearned for their light.
To know them.
To finally see herself in the darkness.Determined, she flew.
Her wings carried her further than anyone would believe.
She [[reached]] her stars.
Each in turn was a burning divinity.
She drank their light with abandon.
The stars taught her [[new colours]].She could always be something new in their endless multitudes.
Whatever they needed her to be.
Intoxicating. Blinding. Brilliant.
Each ray carved [[meaning]] into the dark.Until one, fleeting [[moment]].She rode the light of her stars.
Basking, drunk in the glow.
At the very edge of her vision, she glimpsed [[It]].A horizon, a darkness [[hidden]] against darkness. It couldn't be there. She could not see it. No, she [[would not see it]].But it was [[there]].The reason. The Thing [[beneath]] everything. The Thing was ancient.
So large it could not be seen all at once.
Impossible to keep [[in focus]].Yet it was a Thing that had [[always]] been there. The Thing whose [[gravity]] pulled on every flap of her wings. She must [[feed]] it light. She must [[feed it]] light. She [[must feed]] it light.[[She must feed it light.]][[She must.]]It was [[bound]] to her. She was [[bound]] to It.
Everything she was, was bent to It's will. And when at last the Thing was [[seen]].When at last the Thing was [[known]].She [[wept]]. A watery trickle gave a fleeting [[form]] to that which was formless. Her tears spilled on It's dark, heavy, hungry [[soil]].And in that reflection, she finally saw her [[face]].And she gasped.Within, she saw the stars [[reflected]]. A Thing that was once small.
But had [[grown]].
Invisibly.
Ceaselessly.
A Thing with which she had long ago signed a dark and terrible [[contract]]. And yet within those stars she was never able to see what she needed to see.
No light could [[reveal]] her form. And then another.
And then [[another]].
